Amy Poehler s fiery feminist Moxie brings simmering problems to boil

Amy Poehler’s fiery feminist ‘Moxie’ brings simmering problems to boil Paper Kite Productions/Courtesy Grade: 3.5/5.0 Starting a feminist movement at your high school is one hell of a thing to put on a college application. In “Moxie,” directed by Amy Poehler and based on the novel by Jennifer Mathieu, a determined young woman, Vivan Carter (Hadley Robinson), spearheads a movement to expose and dismantle the patriarchal culture at her high school. No longer accepting the ubiquitous sexism at Rockport High, the girls in “Moxie,” portrayed by a talented group of young women, are a force to be reckoned with.

Moxie movie review: Amy Poehler s film is a fierce feminist rant

A still from ‘Moxie’   Based on Jennifer Mathieu’s eponymous novel, the movie on Netflix does not go for broke, but has its heart in the right place Vivian (Hadley Robinson) and her best friend Claudia (Lauren Tsai) are back at Rockport High in Oregon for the new term. Everything seems to be the same the obnoxious rankings, where all the girls in school are graded according to their physical attributes, are out and the incredibly popular captain of the football team Mitchell Wilson (Patrick Schwarzenegger) is being his casually-annoying self. Everything is same that is until new girl Lucy (Alycia Pascual-Peña) asks Vivian, “You know that annoying can be more than just annoying right?”

Amy Poehler s high-school comedy Moxie calls out toxic masculinity

LONDON: There were many things to love about “Parks and Recreation” – but one of the most obvious was that it starred, unusually, an eternally upbeat, yet likeable protagonist. So perhaps it’s no surprise that Amy Poehler, who played the irrepressible Leslie Knope in “Parks & Rec,” and the “cool mom” in cult classic “Mean Girls,” brings a similar positivity to Netflix
