On May 28, 1934, a miracle happened.
In a modest farmhouse in Corbeil, Ontario, Canada, parents Oliva and Elzire Dionne welcomed five additions to their family: Yvonne, Annette, Cécile, Émilie, and Marie. Soon they would become the first known set of quintuplets to survive infancy.

The New York Times in its May 31, 1934, paper; similar articles lauded subsequent birthdays. At age three their daily routines were captured in an anthropological newsreel by the production company Pathegrams, which narrated “A Day at Home” for the Dionne quints; the toddlers were pictured “shining up a gorgeous smile,” “learning rhythm in their own nursery school,” and, in the late afternoon, “tak[ing] a glass of milk.” ....
