Women engineers pledge to accelerate pace in field of engineering

Rawalpindi: Awareness seminar of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Women Engineer Committee was held here on Friday at FJWU. Guests of the seminar were Engineer Javed Salim Qureshi, Chairman PEC, Engineer Suhail Aftab Qureshi and Dr. Saima Hamid, Vice Chancellor FJWU.
Basic purpose of the seminar is to give awareness to women engineers. Pakistan Engineering council under their Punjab chapter has formulated the first committee to speed up the regulatory process in the field. Message of this committee is to “Let’s do it together.”
Dr. Maryam Jalal, In-charge Electronic Engineering Department FJWU welcomed the honorable guests and said the PEC has constituted a Women Engineering Committee (Punjab) to encourage the interest and professional challenges faced by Women Engineering working in all fields to enhance their efficiency. ....

Cutting down electricity usage can help save costs for SA school - study reveals

Despite financial constraints, high costs and the best efforts of principals, electricity usage in South Africa’s schools remains largely unchecked, as schools focus on educational outcomes. The country’s 23,471 public schools use an estimated 3.5 TWh of energy a year. This is about a quarter of Koeberg nuclear power station’s production and it costs about R5 billion ($330 million).
In a recent study we analysed the energy usage of 13 schools in Stellenbosch, a town in South Africa’s Western Cape province. The sample included poor and affluent schools. We then compared it with what schools use in other countries. This comparison makes it possible to estimate energy efficiency and see where money can be saved. ....
