Freehold Borough receives $400K to improve pedestrian access to bus station
FREEHOLD – State officials have awarded Freehold Borough a $400,000 grant to improve pedestrian access to the town’s bus station.
In a press release, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (DOT) announced the award of $1.8 million in Safe Streets to Transit program grants to seven municipalities. Freehold Borough was one of the seven municipalities and received the largest individual grant at $400,000.
According to municipal officials, the grant is to be used to provide improved pedestrian access to the bus station property between West Main, Throckmorton and Broad streets. ....

Sacco, also the North Bergen mayor, is currently sitting on about $95,228 in campaign cash for his role as a state legislator, according to a January 10th filing with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission (NJ ELEC).
He received $1,000 contributions from the labor groups Communications Workers of America (CWA) PAC, IBEW Local 164, UA Plumbers Local 24, and Steamfitters Local 475 PAC, as well as high-powered law firm DeCotiis, Fitzpatrick, & Cole, respectively.
Ed Farmer, a former chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-9) who now runs the consulting firm Millenium Strategies, also chipped in $1,000 on October 22nd, the ELEC filing shows. ....

Firm hired to supervise conversion of building to new town hall in Freehold Borough
FREEHOLD – Members of the Borough Council in Freehold Borough have authorized professional assistance for a project that will see an office building on Mechanic Street converted to the location of Borough Hall, police department headquarters and the municipal court.
On Jan. 19, council members authorized a professional services agreement with Abbington Engineering for supervision of the new Borough Hall at 30 Mechanic St. The services are in an amount not to exceed $15,000.
At present, Borough Hall is on West Main Street and the police department and municipal court are in the Rug Mill Towers on Jackson Street. The Mechanic Street building was being used by the Monmouth County Probation Department. ....

Among the remnants of Dr. Peter Freis pediatric office in Metuchen from the 1970s and previous tenants as recent as last April is the interior historic beauty of what was once a single family dwelling built by Nathan Robins in 1896. The former Robins home, which was close to being demolished, was saved through many hours of discussion and negotiations. The home is under contract for purchase by Nancy and Pete Zerbe.
