Miri set to become first smart city in Sarawak, says Abang Jo

KUCHING: Miri is set to become the first smart city in Sarawak with a range of applications providing local government services to the public.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg said the initiative was part of the state government s efforts to improve municipal services through digital technology.
He said the smart city concept would be extended to other urban areas in the state if it proved to be successful in Miri.
This is a test bed for us to study the effectiveness of using smart applications in providing services to Miri residents.
As of today, I was informed that all the applications that are used by the Miri Municipal Council have positive results, at the same time closing the gap between residents and the council, Abang Johari said after launching the smart city concept in Miri on Monday (April 12). ....

Low turnouts as primary schools reopen in S'wak

SIBU: Primary schools in all districts in the state have reopened on Monday (March 15) except in Miri, but teachers were greeted with fewer students.
Primary schools in Miri will only have face-to-face learning after March 22, as the district is still a Covid-19 red zone.
Meanwhile, many parents were still cautious about sending their children to school due to the pandemic.
A headmistress at a school here, who did not want to be identified, said only 25.71% of her students showed up.
We have 35 students from Pre-school to Primary 6, but only nine of them came. Despite the low attendance, classes have to go on, she said. ....

The website had a homely, almost slapdash design with a light blue banner and a strange name: Slate Star Codex.
It was nominally a blog, written by a Bay Area psychiatrist who called himself Scott Alexander (a near anagram of Slate Star Codex). It was also the epicenter of a community called the Rationalists, a group that aimed to reexamine the world through cold and careful thought. ....
