New Report Shows California's IHSS Quality Of Care Has Dropped

A new report from the California State Auditor’s office says seniors and disabled people who rely on the state’s In-Home Support Services are not getting the quality of care they should be receiving. The report cited a lack of available caregivers and low wages as part of the reason and that is something Crista Barnett-Nelson with Senior Advocacy Services has first-hand experience with.

According to the report, caregivers were paid at near or below the minimum wage, averaging $12.29 in 2019. The audit also found 32 of 51 counties did not have enough caregivers to provide recipients with all the available services. Auditors estimate IHSS recipients will grow by 52% in the next decade. ....
