People With Disabilities Report Fewer Voting Troubles

A new report finds that Americans with disabilities had an easier time casting their ballots in November. (Stacey Wescott/Chicago Tribune/TNS)
Just 11% of voters with disabilities encountered difficulties during the 2020 election, down from 26% in 2012.
That’s according to a report out this week from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, a federal agency established by the Help America Vote Act.

The report conducted by Lisa Schur and Douglas Kruse of the Rutgers Program for Disability Research is based on information gathered from 1,782 voters with disabilities and 787 voters without following the November election. Schur and Kruse produced a similar report after the 2012 election. ....

AP CM YS Jagan Stresses On Cochlear Implant For Deaf Kids In Early Stages

Amaravati: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday directed the officials to make Andhra Pradesh free from deaf and mute children by initiating a massive screening program to identify the defects at early stages and conduct surgeries along with treatment procedures.
Taking part in a review meeting on Cochlear implants and deaf-free Andhra Pradesh, the Chief Minister said that a special program for cochlear implants should be developed similar to that of YSR Kanti Velugu and conduct surgeries by detecting at the early stage. He asserted that the government s goal is to help people with disabilities and support them by offering ideal treatment. In this context, the officials discussed the preventive measures taken by countries like the US, Britain, Australia in rectifying deaf and mute disorders. ....
