WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. Maria Schroeder was worried and increasingly anxious. It was weeks after coronavirus vaccine distribution had started in Missouri, and she still had 11 residents with intellectual disabilities who required 24-hour support and no vaccine.
She expected someone to tell her how to get it. Finally, in mid-January, the state sent her a list.
But Schroeder, assistant director for L’Arche St. Louis, which runs three group homes in St. Louis County, quickly realized the list was cluttered with every brick-and-mortar CVS, Walgreens and Costco locations that, while approved to vaccinate, often had no doses of vaccine. ....

The Conservative government’s criminal indifference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in society has become ever more blatant as the pandemic crisis has unfolded. Earlier this month, the Mencap charity reported that people with learning disabilities were being told in January that they would not be resuscitated if they fell gravely ill with COVID-19.

MANSEHRA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Social Welfare Dr Hisham Inamullah has said that the government is working on a strategy for the economic empowerment of women and children with disabilities across the province.
“In the past, none of the governments collected such accurate data on women and children with disabilities but our government is following a strategy in this regard,” he told a gathering organised by the Helping Hand Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences here on Saturday.
Educationists, dignitaries and students from across Hazara attended the event.
Dr Hisham said the first sociological institution for the children with disabilities would be inaugurated within three months where mentally challenged children from across the province could be enrolled. ....

An Auckland businessman who gained notoriety after his $400,000 Lamborghini was towed because he misused a disabled parking spot has had the luxury car repossessed and sold over unpaid debts.
Gerard Peters, 30, hit headlines
in 2015 after his $400,000 Lamborghini was photographed in a disabled parking spot at West Auckland shopping complex LynnMall.
While Peters was able to pay that $400 parking fine and reclaim his vehicle, more recent - and substantial - debts have seen that Lamborghini and five other luxury cars he owned seized and sold to satisfy short-changed creditors. ....
