Results: Airtel Africa Q4 net profit soars to USD 154 mn

Airtel Africa on Wednesday reported doubling of profit after tax for the March 2021 quarter to USD 154 million (over Rs 1130 crore), amid broad-based growth across key services and markets.
The underlying revenue for the fourth quarter ended March stood at USD 1,038 million (about Rs 7,619 crore), rising 15.4 per cent year-on-year on a reported currency basis.
Profit after tax doubled over the year ago period, jumping to USD 154 million in the quarter ended March amid higher depreciation and amortisation and reduction in forex losses.
In a statement, Airtel Africa said for the full year ended March 2021, the reported revenue grew by 14.2 per cent to USD 3,908 million (over Rs 28,600 crore). ....

Second-hand apparel retailer ThredUp's bigger loss shreds shares

(Reuters) -Online second-hand apparel retailer ThredUp Inc on Wednesday posted a bigger-than-expected quarterly loss in its first report as a public company and warned of clothing budgets remaining constrained even as the U.S. economy reopens.
The company’s shares tumbled 10% in extended trading as investors shrugged off a revenue beat and focused on surging costs.
The stock has gained more than 43% since the late-March debut as investors bet on a sharp growth fueled by younger customers increasingly looking past the stigma of second-hand products and rooting for sustainability.
To support that growth, ThredUp is spending rapidly on new distribution centers, marketing and automation. ....

BT 'back on front foot' as it promises fast fibre for 25 million UK premises

LONDON (Reuters) -BT will take fast broadband fibre to 25 million homes and businesses by the end of 2026, it said on Thursday, after changes in tax and regulation and a new deal on its pension deficit enabled it to raise its target by 5 million premises.

Chief Executive Philip Jansen said he was seeking partners to help fund the 15 billion pounds ($21 billion) of investment needed for the rollout.
“After years of decline for BT the future is now one of growth,” he told reporters. “We’ve got BT back on the front foot, and we’re now focusing BT on building further and faster to deliver even more for our customers and shareholders.” ....
