It isn’t exactly the start of regional home-and-home series with a high-profile team the New Mexico Lobos wanted, but for now, it’ll do.
The UNM men’s basketball team has completed its non-conference scheduling after recently signing a contract to host Big Sky member Montana State in the Pit on Nov. 20.
Technically, two games remain to be finalized as the re-scheduled dates have not yet been agreed upon between the Lobos and New Mexico State Aggies, but after the pandemic led to that series not being played last season for the first time since World War II, neither school is going to be able to justify finding a way to skip those games this coming season. ....

The big news out of Lobo men’s basketball on Wednesday was the program, for now, has a roster for the 2021-22 season that no longer exceeds the NCAA’s maximum scholarship limit of 13.
New head coach Richard Pitino confirmed that sophomore Kurt Wegscheider, a 6-foot-5 sophomore guard from Central African Republic who played in 36 games the past two seasons for the Lobos, and 7-1 Assane Ndiaye, a center who was with the team this past season but was never cleared to play in a game, have entered the NCAA transfer portal and will leave the program. ....

Lobos Swept in DH with Fresno State

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. New Mexico’s bat woke up just a tad too late in each game of a doubleheader, but it just wasn’t quite enough. New Mexico twice got the tying or winning run to the plate in the ninth inning after trailing by six runs, but UNM couldn’t cap off either comeback, losing 10-8 in game one and then 11-9 in the nightcap. The two losses sent UNM to 9-19 overall and 6-11 in the MW while Fresno State improved to 15-19 overall and 12-12 in the Mountain West.
The two teams finish the series at noon at Santa Ana Star Field. Both teams have not announced a starting pitcher. ....
