The 70th annual National Day of Prayer drew dozens of people to the flagpole in front of Bowman City Hall May 6 for a time to reflect, pray, and sing. Local churches and their ministers, pastors and deacons led the ceremony, which started with a welcome by Rev. Ray Sherwood and followed by The Lordâs Prayer. Deacon Lenny Fischer led the participants in an acoustic rendition of âHeal Our Land;â Brenda Sherwood led the Pledge of Allegiance, while Rev. Mary Wiggins followed with a prayer for the family. There were prayers for the church (Rev. Ed Kvaale), the workplace (Rev. Charles Johnson), education (Rev. Renee Johnson), military (Fr. Paul Eberle), government (Rev. Seth Springer), for art, media and entertainment (Rev. David Werner), and music (Deacon Fischer). ....
Arden C. Stafford, 88, of Scranton, ND, passed away on March 16, 2021, in Scranton. Funeral Services for Arden was 3 p.m. on March 21, 2021 at the Pierce Congregational Church. Pastor Mary Wiggins officiated and burial followed in the Pierce Cemetery. Visitation for Arden was on March 20, 2021 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Krebsbach Funeral Home Chapel. Arden Stafford was born in Hume Township, Slope County, on Oct. 5, 1932, son of Archie âArtâ and Ellen (Powell) Stafford. He grew up on the family farm north of Scranton during the Depression. Arden received his high school education in New England. At the young age of 23, he took over the family farm when his father passed away in 1955. ....

It was Peter Burling and he was going door-to-door campaigning for a New Hampshire Senate seat against a popular Republican. Wiggins lived down the street from the Sturm, Ruger gun plant “where I was not a popular fellow,” Burling recalled. Upon answering, Wiggins looked at the Cornish Democrat and said, “Are you crazy to be going around here? Come in here.” ....

(WLOX) - The mayor of a South Mississippi city has died after being hospitalized due to double pneumonia just weeks after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Wiggins Mayor Joel Miles died Sunday at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport after developing complications from the virus. The city posted Sunday night on Facebook announcing Miles’ death. Miles, who was elected as mayor of Wiggins in 2013, had been hospitalized at George Regional Hospital in Lucedale but was transferred to Memorial Hospital on Friday in the hopes that he could get more specialized care. ....
