Gov. Hogan announces $7 million in emergency relief awards for Main Street communities statewide

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On Tuesday, Governor Larry Hogan announced $7 million in awards for 41 Main Street programs across the state of Maryland.
The funding will support small businesses and other economic recovery efforts in the state and Baltimore City designated Main Street communities. More than 5,000 businesses will be eligible for support from their local Main Street Program.
These awards mark the third phase of the Maryland Strong: Economic Recovery Initiative administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.
Several Eastern Shore towns and cities are included in these awards:
Berlin – Town of Berlin: $194,113
Cambridge – Cambridge Main Street, Inc.: $139,762 ....

Although it seems like a lifetime ago, just a year has passed since we last gathered with members of the General Assembly for the annual State of the State address.
Last year, I spoke about how Maryland was setting a shining example for the rest of America because of our shared conviction that there is no problem we face that hard work, honesty, and courage cannot solve if we work together.
Over this past year, as we have faced unimaginable challenges, those words were truly put to the test. As of Friday, January 29, 2021, there have been 350,629 cases of novel coronavirus in Maryland. The state has now conducted 6,918,308 tests, including more than 52,000 tests over the past 24 hours.
A total of 6,900 Marylanders have died with COVID-19 and 1,616 individuals are currently hospitalized – a decrease of 152 hospitalizations since last Friday.  A total of 367 ICU beds are currently in use, a decrease of 57 beds since last Friday.
More than 72% of Maryland’s COVID-19 fatalities have been among those over 70 years of age (4,976/6,900).

ANNAPOLIS, MD Governor Larry Hogan today announced the $250 million ‘Maryland Strong: Economic Recovery Initiative,’ which will provide funding from the Rainy Day Fund to directly assist restaurants, small businesses, local entertainment venues, arts organizations, and Main Streets across the state. The initiative doubles the state’s total commitment to COVID-19 emergency economic relief for Marylanders to $500 million.
