Mets-Braves game postponed due to a forecast of heavy rain.

NEW YORK (AP) — The game between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves was postponed due to a forecast of rain on Friday night.
The decision was made more than two hours before the first pitch with up to two inches of rain expected. No makeup date was announced.
The scheduled starters for Friday — the Mets’ Taijuan Walker (3-1, 2.05 ERA) and the Braves’ Ian Anderson (4-1, 2.82 ERA) — were pushed back to Saturday. Rain is in the forecast throughout the weekend.
The series is the first three Braves’ visits to New York.
The Mets have played a league-low 44 games and they already are scheduled to play doubleheaders against the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies in June as well as a single nine-inning makeup against the Nationals.

Mets fighting wild injuries, struggling stars and general Metsiness

May 25, 2021
Welcome to The Opener, where every weekday morning you’ll get a fresh, topical column to start your day from one of SI.com
’s MLB writers.
Back in November, when Steve Cohen was approved to take over as majority owner of the Mets, I wrote a column pondering what this new ownership might mean for the team’s Metsiness—the ineffable quality that makes them, well, the
Mets.
This quality is not tied to winning or losing. It is not directly tied to the roster or the manager or even the owner. It transcends all of that; Metsiness is a journey instead of a destination. Indeed, the column noted, it felt entirely possible the team would spend the winter marking its new era with a major acquisition—like, say, Francisco Lindor?—and go on to enjoy a successful season all while still keeping a certain Metsiness. This seemed perfectly reasonable: Metsiness was “not tied to a specific sort of action,” the column went. “It was a vibe. It was a spirit. It was getting locked in the batting cage when you’re supposed to be pinch-hitting.”

In a scene described by multiple members of the Mets as “scary,” New York’s Kevin Pillar was struck in the face Monday by a 95-mph fastball. The veteran outfielder was eventually able to leave the field at Atlanta’s Truist Park under his own power, but not before ESPN’s national TV audience saw him crouched on the dirt with blood pouring down.

With Peterson at just 83 pitches and the bottom of the Rays’ order due up in the bottom of the eighth, Manager Luis Rojas sent the lefty back out to the mound.

The legend of Patrick Mazeika is growing, even if the Mets catcher still doesn’t have a MLB hit to his name.
Mazeika became the first MLB player in the last 100 years to post multiple walk-off RBI before recording his first career hit when his fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth inning capped off a 3-2 Mets comeback over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday at Citi Field in Flushing, New York.
