FLINT, MI Flint Community Schools educators, staff and students will soon have access to rapid antigen COVID-19 testing.
The Flint Board of Education unanimously approved the authorization of the testing at the Wednesday, April 21 meeting.
The voluntary testing will provide a way for the district to assess students and staff’s COVID-19 status quickly. Students must have permission from their parents or guardian, according to board documents.
The tests are being provided through a program with the Genesee Intermediate School District, which oversees acquiring testing for county schools. The tests will be free to the district, staff and students. ....

FLINT, MI Flint Community Schools is pausing face-to-face learning and athletics for an indefinite period of time starting Monday, April 12, the district has announced.
The announcement issued Tuesday, April 6 by the district and Flint Board of Education Secretary Danielle Green notes a date for returning face-to-face learning has not been determined.
“At Flint Community Schools, the safety and well-being of our scholars and staff is a primary concern,” Assistant Superintendent Kevelin Jones said in a news release. “. Flint Community Schools will pause in-person learning and all athletics programs starting Monday, April 12, 2021 until further notice. ....

FLINT, MI Flint Community Schools plans to “honor the tradition of snow days” this year despite plans to continue remote instruction through most of February.
In the event of a significant snow fall and when the road conditions call for it, Flint schools will still call snow days, Superintendent Anita Steward wrote in a Wednesday, Jan 27 letter.
“Growing up as a student at Flint Community Schools, I remember the excitement I would carry every time a large snow fall was predicted,” Steward wrote. “I would barely sleep a wink, waiting to find out whether school might be canceled. When it was, I would play outside in the snow, building snowmen and carving snow angels in the yard.” ....
