THE former mayor of Poole said the council needed to spend every penny wisely and spending £90,000 on two new cars was “excessive”. The funding was included in BCP Council’s long-term fleet management plan, and if approved would see £90,000 spent on two cars for mayoral use. And Marion Le Poidevin, former mayor for Poole, with current mayor Julie Bagwell and future mayor Tony Trent have opposed the plans, saying they were “horrified”. New cycle and pedestrian paths proposed THE installation of upgraded cycle and foot paths through Kings Park is set to get underway, thanks to a government grant. Starting in late July, the work will be funded through cash from the government’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) and will form part of an 8km ‘sustainable travel route’ between Bournemouth railway station and Jumpers Common in Christchurch. Councillor Mike Greene, transport portfolio holder for BCP Council, said: “Kings Park is an important location connecting Christchurch and Bournemouth. These planned improvements will really open up sustainable travel as a viable, attractive, healthy and safe way to commute between these areas. ....
A POPULAR independent clothing shop in Bournemouth town centre will be closing down due to pedestrianisation, says the owner. Richmond Classics on Albert Road has announced it will be closing its doors for good as a result of the council s decision to pedestrianise Beale Place several years ago. Owner Keith McNicol has put up a sign in the shop window blaming councillor Mike Greene, portfolio holder for sustainability and transport at Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council, for the stores closure. The destination fashion store has been trading in Bournemouth since 1988 and opened its Albert Road shop in 2003. Following the development and pedestrianisation of Beale Place and the closure of Albert Road and Yelverton Road in 2016, owner of Richmond Classics, Mr McNicol told the Daily Echo how he has seen an 80 per cent decline in footfall which has led to him taking the decision to close. ....
