BURNHAM-ON-SEA S RNLI volunteers were called into action on Sunday (May 2), to assist a yacht which had suffered a loss of power. The RNLI crew had just returned from their regular Sunday morning training, when the call came through to inform them that a local yacht had lost engine power while returning to Burnham Sailing Club s pontoons in the River Brue. Atlantic 85 lifeboat Doris Day and Brian was re-launched, and was able to assist the stricken craft with an alongside tow, delivering it safely to its berth. Atlantic helmsman Nick Edrich said: The skipper of the boat found that the engine of his yacht would not start when he wanted to return to the yacht club after sailing on the River Parrett. ....
Burnham-On-Seaâs Abbeyfield House says farewell to manager of 20 years Residents, staff and Trustees at Burnham-On-Sea’s Abbeyfield House have this week said farewell to their long-serving House Manager of over twenty years, Diane Brown. A small presentation was held, complying  with Covid restrictions, at which the residents, staff and three of the Trustees wished Diane well in her retirement. Diane was presented with a long service award from the Abbeyfield Trust, a bouquet of flowers and a cheque from the Trustees for her to purchase an item for her new home. A spokesperson said: âDiane will be greatly missed by the residents, staff and Trustees for her knowledge, experience and great sense of humour.â ....

Some of that will go on display Thursday and Friday at the Interagency Grizzly Bear Committeeâs Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem subcommittee meeting, held in cyberspace. As the wildlife managers overseeing roughly 1,000 grizzlies inhabiting the mountains between Glacier National Park and Missoula convene, they will have fresh exhortations from the Montana Legislature and the stateâs congressional delegation to consider. They must also absorb the executive shifts from Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock to Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte, in contrast with the federal reverse of President Donald Trump to President Joe Biden. ....

Russell) STEAMBOAT SPRINGS Daryl Newcomb’s good friends gathered together Tuesday in his Steamboat Springs home recalling backcountry skiing adventures, camping trips in Moab, Utah, and the life of the man they were proud to call friend. “We’re a rudderless group of ski bums without him,” longtime friend Byrne Powers said. “He can’t be replaced, and we’re lost.” Friends said Newcomb died suddenly Saturday from an apparent heart attack while stopping by one of his favorite places, Kirby Cosmo’s BBQ and Bar in Minturn, for a bite to eat. Newcomb, who worked as a server at Café Diva for 22 years, was 59 years old. ....
