Dr Zeynep Kaya | Department of Politics | The University of Sheffield


Profile
Dr Zeynep Kaya joined the Department in May 2021, having previously worked at SOAS and the LSE. She holds a PhD in International Relations from the LSE. Her main research areas involve borderlands, territoriality, conflict, peace, political legitimacy and gender. She has recently published a monograph entitled Mapping Kurdistan: Territory, Self-Determination and Nationalism with Cambridge University Press. 
Zeynep is co-editor of I.B. Tauris-Bloomsbury’s book series on Kurdish studies and co-convenor of Kurdish Studies Series with the LSE Middle East Centre. She is also an Academic Associate at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge. 
Research interests
My research adopts an international historical sociology approach to the study of territoriality, borderlands and political legitimacy in the Middle East. I examine how politics related to these concepts change over time in connection with the transformation of international norms in world history. I ....

Human Development Report Office to revisit the Human Security concept in 2021
In volatile world, where risks associated with planetary pressures – such as climate change and biodiversity loss – are overlayed on inequalities in human development, our societies are being put the test. The Covid-19 pandemic is the most recent manifestation of this. This year the Human Development Report Office will consider how the concept of Human Security can help to understand these challenges and frame responses to them . Running in parallel with the prepraration of the next Human Development Report, it will result in a separate publication, benefiting from the advice of a High-Level Advisory Panel (HLAP). About this Event
The Conflict Research Programme has been investigating the logics of war and peace across five countries in the Middle East and Africa over the last four years. Findings cover the link between extremist identity politics and political marketplaces, the countervailing role of civicness, and ‘what works’ external interventions in such areas as security, humanitarian need or localised conflict resolution. Producing high-quality research published in academic journals alongside policy analysis to the UK government, the programme boasts a range of outputs that has the potential to shape academic debate and the development landscape. ....

Emery Mushagalusa Mudinga


Emery Mushagalusa Mudinga is a lecturer, researcher and consultant based at the Institute for Rural Development Studies – ISDR Bukavu - DR. Congo. He holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the University of Louvain-la-Neuve and a Master’s degree in Development studies. His research focus on land grabs dynamics and peasants resistance in Africa, armed groups dynamics, resource conflicts, peacebuilding and research ethics (with focus on science and knowledge decolonization and research collaboration). He is one of the researchers working for the Conflict Research Programme (CRP) hosted at the London School of Economics and the Gent University. Emery Mudinga is also the scientific coordinator of the Land Rush project based at ISDR Bukavu and Université catholique de Louvain.
