VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) â Lawyers for a senior executive for Chinese communications giant Huawei Technologies argued in court Wednesday that the United States âstrategically craftedâ a misleading record of the case and acted âin bad faithâ when presenting reasons for her extradition. Meng Wanzhou, who is Huawei s chief financial officer and the daughter of the companyâs founder, was arrested at Vancouverâs airport in late 2018 at the request of the U.S., which has charged her with fraud. Her arrest infuriated Beijing, which sees her case as a political move designed to prevent Chinaâs rise. The U.S. accuses Huawei of using a Hong Kong shell company called Skycom to sell equipment to Iran in violation of U.S. sanctions. Supreme Court judge Wednesday that the United States “misused” the extradition process, calling its conduct “egregious” and “troublesome.” The court should grant a stay of proceedings to “meaningfully denounce the misleading conduct” of the United States, she said. America was “selective” in what it disclosed to Canada in its case for Meng s committal in the extradition request, she told the court. “Partnership requires trust,” she said. “That trust will be informed by the good faith of our partners.” ....
