A man who barricaded himself inside a Long Branch house after stabbing a sleeping woman in her neck was sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday.
Dennismar Andrade, 30, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and obstructing the administration of law after he used a kitchen knife to stab a woman sleeping in a bed and a man inside a Long Branch residence on the morning of February 18, 2017.
In court on Thursday, a judge said Andrade was suffering from auditory hallucinations at the time of the stabbings, but two evaluators determined his condition “did not rise to the defense of insanity.” The judge said both victims continue to suffer from their injuries. ....

KEYPORT, NJ The town of Keyport is suing the landowners on which a former landfill sits, saying that even though the landfill has been closed for 42 years, it continues to leak solid waste and heavy metals into Raritan Bay.
Keyport filed the lawsuit Jan. 28 against Bay Ridge Realty Corporation, a New York City-based company that owns the land. The former landfill is located at 55 Walnut Street in Keyport; it is a 50-acre industrial site that stopped being used as a landfill in 1979. ....

NJ man prison-bound for repeated sexual assaults of young girls
FREEHOLD – A Shrewsbury man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, a year after he confessed to sexually assaulting seven different girls, all younger than 13, over a ten year span.
Victor Mejia-Salinas was sentenced on Friday by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Vincent N. Falcetano, who slammed the man’s status as a heart transplant recipient, saying that the life-saving organ was, essentially, wasted on the 47-year-old Mejia-Salinas.
“That heart belongs in someone else’s chest,” Falcetano said in court, as reported by the Asbury Park Press.
Mejia-Salinas pleaded guilty on Feb. 25, 2020 to two counts of first degree aggravated sexual assault, three counts of second degree sexual assault and two counts of third degree endangering the welfare of a child. ....

Long Branch man heading to prison for drug death in Tinton Falls

A Long Branch man is heading to prison for six-years though as he has plead guilty to the first degree crime of strict liability for drug induced death in February of 2020 in Tinton Falls, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.

Lateef Reevey, 31, of Long Branch, was sentenced by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Lourdes Lucas to prison subject to the No Early Release Act and Pursuant to N.E.R.A., he will be required to serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. ....
