Yamhill DA to probe claims of bias in Joey Gibson prosecution March 10 2021 Lawyers for Patriot Prayer leader requested investigation after judge tossed out attempt to end a criminal case. The Yamhill County District Attorney s Office will investigate allegations of bias and profiling in the prosecution of a local right-wing protest organizer. After a federal judge ruled last month that the criminal case against Joey Gibson can proceed, lawyers for the Patriot Prayer leader and his associate filed complaints of selective prosecution against Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt. The Yamhill County District Attorney s Office has agreed to review your allegations of violation of MCDA Policy by members of this office, Multnomah DA s chief assistant, Jeffrey A. March 12 2021 The Oregon Health Authority reports the newest figures the day after restrictions eased in eight counties. The day after eight Oregon countries were allowed to ease COVID-19 restrictions, the Oregon Health Authority reported 365 new cases and three new deaths on Saturday, March 13. On Friday, Multnomah, Yamhill, Lane, Deschutes and Klamath counties improved to the Moderate Risk category. Businesses throughout the tri-county area such as restaurants, bars, movie theaters and fitness centers will now be allowed to fill up to 50% indoor capacity. Plus, retailers and shopping centers can bump up to 75% capacity. Benton, Jefferson and Josephine improved to the High Risk category on March 12, which allows some reopenings but carries more restrictions than the Moderate Risk category. ....
Oregon Democrat and 1st Congressional District urge 11 groups to back renewed effort in Congress. U.S. Rep. Suzanne Bonamici urged advocates from 11 community groups to rally around the latest congressional effort to overhaul the nation s immigration system. The Democrat from Beaverton, who represents the 1st Congressional District that includes Newberg and Dundee, spoke Feb. 19 at a virtual roundtable discussion one day after she and other House and Senate cosponsors unveiled the 353-page bill. Bonamici said she hopes the third time will be the charm with President Joe Biden, who has moved quickly with presidential orders to repeal or put on hold the actions of former President Donald Trump, a harsh critic of longstanding U.S. immigration policies.
