PUBLIC relations firm boss Philip Allott has pledged to be “a broad church” and tackle a wide range of concerns after being elected Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire.
With a turnout that was the highest since the post of police and crime commissioner was created in 2012, the Conservative candidate took 47 per cent of the first preference votes – falling short of the requisite 50 per cent – but secured re-election on second preference votes.
After several recounts it was announced he had secured a total of 83,737 first and second preference votes, over 30,000 more than his nearest rival Labour’s Alison Hume. ....

Isolation is difficult and yet we politicians, of all parties, have been trying to do our best to lead, to inspire, to work together, and to keep the council moving forwards to the benefit of our communities. ....

York sees spike in GP appointments and Covid-19 vaccine bookings

York healthcare staff exhausted as GP appointment demand spikes
A YORK GP has warned that healthcare staff are “exhausted” and looking for a way out amid a sharp spike in GP appointments.
Doctors carried out 167,312 appointments with patients at surgeries in the NHS Vale of York CCG area in March – 30,525 more than in February. That was also 28,482 more than during the same month last year, at the start of the pandemic.
The CCG said we can all play our part in reducing pressure on services but added that patients should not delay seeking help with worrying symptoms.
While under pressure, your local GP practice is there if you need it,  Shaun Macey, acting assistant director of primary care at the CCG, said. ....
