Says anyone saying Nigeria better together wants Yoruba to perish
A foremost Yoruba leader, Prof. Banji Akintoye, has said that anyone who says Nigeria is better together wants the Yoruba people to perish.
Akintoye said people who did not understand fully the enormity of the danger that faced the Yoruba nation and those who want to benefit from Nigeria at all costs and detriment of their people, are those against self-determination but instead pushing for restructuring.
Akintoye, who is also the chairman of the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self-Determination (NINAS), stated this during an interview with The Guardian in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. ....

Yoruba leaders to meet over insecurity in South west region

Leaders of Yoruba nation under the aegis of the Pan Yoruba Congress (PYC) are billed to meet and dialogue on the security crisis facing the South-Western region of the country.
A statement by the Congress’ Committee Chairman, Ogbeni Sola Lawal, on Thursday revealed that the meeting is bill for Wednesday next week in Ibadan, Oyo state.
According to Lawal, leaders of the region expected at the event includes leaders of all facets of human engagement such as traditional, political, religious, business and social among others.
“Everything is set for the historic gathering.The Pan Yoruba congress is about our unity as a race, it is about our destiny and it is about our stake in securing the southwest and making our region safe for all and sundry, ” Lawal said. ....

The President of Ilana Omo Oodua, Prof Banji Akintoye, has described the recent food blockade by northern traders and the persistent destruction of farmlands by Fulani herders in the South-West as a deliberate plan to cause hunger and starvation in the region.
Akintoye, therefore, challenged other Yoruba leaders and governors of the South-West states to rise to the occasion and save their people from the impending calamity.
The Yoruba leader, who stated this in a statement on Saturday titled, “Only self-determination will save the Yoruba – Akintoye,’ said, ‘No Yoruba person must now be in doubt that war has been declared against the Yoruba nation, and that we, the Yoruba nation, must be ready to use all our capabilities to defend our nation. This is no longer surreptitious but a glaring and open declaration of war on our people. ....

Police deploy surveillance helicopter, mobile force, others to Oyo

Nigeria Police Force boss Mohammed Adamu on Monday deployed “intervention and stabilisation forces” to Oyo State over the ethnic conflicts happening in the state.
Adamu said the deployment is “to reclaim the public space, reinforce security and bolster public confidence in the areas affected by the recent crisis in the State.”
According to the police boss, the deployments, consist of “intelligence and operational assets of the Force, include four Units of the Police Mobile Force, seasoned operatives from the Force Intelligence Bureau and one operational/surveillance Police helicopter from the Police Air-wing.”

Adamu said the intervention team is being coordinated by a Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG David Folawiyo, who is expected to mobilize all relevant stakeholders towards achieving the mandate of the squad. ....

Insecurity may worsen in South-West - Youths to governors

Yoruba Professionals Foundation (YPF) on Friday warned South-West Governors to prioritize jobs or watch insecurity get out of control.
Their position was contained in a statement by the President, Maxwell Adeleye and Director of Research and Strategy, Olawale Kadri.
YPF lamented the rate of unemployment, which it called “a major problem in Yoruba land”.
“A trillion naira budgetary allocation to Amotekun, Police and Army cannot quench insecurity where youth unemployment reigns supreme”, they noted.
The group said security challenges in the region posed a great threat to development and foreign direct investments.
“According to the United Nations data, over 69% of our population are below age 35 and unfortunately, the majority of crimes are perpetrated by people who fall between ages 20-35. This is the most active age in human life,” it said. ....
