Radcliffe Neighbourhood Watch group unveils defibrillator

The device is on Harper Fold Road, near Bolton Road Community Centre.
It was put in place by the Cams Lane Neighbourhood Watch Group, which raised over £2000 and have just bought the equipment, with contributions from the local Rotary Club and two Radcliffe First councillors.
Des Duncalfe, a group member, decided to begin raising money after a 56-year-old died of a heart attack in the area two years ago.
Mr Duncalfe said: “ I realised there was a demand for this so I told the other members of the group who have been fantastic in helping to make it happen.
“We’re all immensely proud we managed to get it done. We do as much as we can to help support this community.” ....

Bury Council local elections: Labour remain in overall control as Tories fail to make expected gains

SUCCESS: Radcliffe First celebrate a successful local election
LABOUR remain in control of Bury Council following a set of results which left the Conservatives ruing what they saw as a lost opportunity.
Overall Labour lost one seat to finish with 27 but the Tories were unable to make any real gains across the Borough and remain with 15 seats.
Labour were able to win Ramsbottom from the Conservatives with voters also returning to the party in Prestwich following previous concerns about Labour s antisemitism issues.
Sedgley also voted Labour with Conservative Carrol Bernstein losing her seat.
Perhaps the story of the day was the success of the hyper-local party Radcliffe First who gained two seats at the expense of Labour to add to their two seats in the town. ....

Landmark barge feature in Radcliffe is shipshape once again

A GROUP of volunteers has come together to restore a Radcliffe landmark.
Headed up by Eric and Tracy Owen of Little Britain Anglers alongside Radcliffe Litter Pickers and using a grant from the Bury Community Fund, work has been taking place to spruce up the model of a canal barge on Water Street.
The barge reflects Radcliffe’s heritage as a major stop on the The Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal, which is now culverted under Water Street.
“It has been repainted and flowers have been planted,” said Gill Smith, of Radcliffe Litter Pickers. “ A bridge has also been added so it looks like the barge is coming out of a tunnel.” ....
