After Criticism for Delay, County Announces Plan to Reopen Libraries, Senior Centers
After backlash from residents and community leaders, Montgomery County will be reopening some of its public libraries and senior centers.
On June 1, six library branches will reopen. Then, on June 14 two of the county’s seven senior centers will reopen.
The libraries that will reopen are:
Connie Morella Library, 7400 Arlington Road, Bethesda
Gaithersburg Library, 18330 Montgomery Village Ave.
Marilyn J. Praisner Library, 14910 Old Columbia Pike, Burtonsville
Olney Library, 3500 Olney-Laytonsville Road
Rockville Memorial Library, 21 Maryland Ave.
Silver Spring Library, 900 Wayne Ave.
The senior centers that will reopen are:
Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Dr., Silver Spring

Eight County Rec Centers Will Open March 1 on Limited Basis
Not only are some Montgomery County Public Schools opening March 1. So are eight of the county’s community recreation centers.
County officials announced Friday that residents may schedule a time to use the fitness and other rooms without joining a class. Instructor-led in-person classes began Feb. 16.
Residents must have a Fit N Play Pass to reserve a fitness room or gym activities. Residents can purchase a six-month Fit N Play pass for $55. Passes are free for those 17 years and younger.
“Getting our residents back in our facilities safely is one our highest priorities,” said Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley. “COVID-19 has been hard for everyone and recreation and physical activity is a great way for people to manage their stress, get healthier and feel better. This next step, in reopening in a safe limited basis, is great for people who are looking for a full workout or a family looking for a class, fun activity, or just to let their kids jump rope or run around and play.”

“Getting our residents back in our facilities safely is one our highest priorities,” Montgomery County Recreation Director Robin Riley said. “COVID-19 has been hard for everyone and recreation and physical activity is a great way for people to manage their stress, get healthier and feel better.”
In order to reserve a fitness room or gym activities, residents must have a ‘Fit N Play’ pass. Montgomery residents who are 18 years or older can purchase a six-month pass for $55. Residents under 17 can get a pass for free.
Residents who live in the same household will be able to schedule a room together. Pickleball and badminton are available for members to play against one other person.
