Unemployment complications heightened for seniors

“There should be help available just for people that don’t have access to it. Because a lot of people don’t even own a computer and things are really computerized,” says Mary Jo Dannenbrink. “So [there’s a] disadvantage sometimes.”
Dannenbrink, a hair stylist at Clip Art, tells I-Team 8 she filed for unemployment benefits after hair salons were shut down due to the pandemic. It’s been a year and half and she has yet to receive a paycheck. Fortunately, she had her daughter to help her make calls and fill out forms, but that still hasn’t gotten her any new results. ....

I-Team 8 drops off 900+ unemployment complaints at Workforce Development

The DWD declined an interview with I-Team 8 on Monday.
“I really do not feel like they addressed what’s wrong,” says Danita Owens, whose brother is being asked to repay $8,025 in pandemic unemployment benefits, even though he was deemed eligible.
“Somebody needs to step up to help all of these claimants, not each individual claim, because the issue is not different,” Owens said.
Owens says since the press conference, nothing has changed and she says many questions have gone unanswered.
“Why can’t you grant the waiver? And why was the waiver even asked for? I just feel like that it leaves an open end to an answer that we really didn’t get answered,” Owens said. ....

Judge: Village of Brice speed-camera traffic-ticketing process illegal

For nearly two years, the village of Brice has operated a camera-based system of citing drivers for speeding violations without going through Franklin County Municipal Court, an apparent violation of state law.
The village, surrounded by Columbus on the Southeast Side, has continued for the past year to issue the speeding tickets and collect thousands of dollars in fines in what appears to be defiance of an Ohio Supreme Court ruling.
A recent graduate of the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law is now the latest individual to challenge the practice.
Alexander Maxwell, unlike the majority of motorists who have been ticketed for speeding in Brice, had the advantage of three years in law school under his belt when he got a notice of violation in the mail from the village in December. ....

New insurer policies hurting chemo drug dispersal

May 6, 2021
The theory is that white bagging insurance companies requiring hospitals to use a specific specialty pharmacy for intensive treatments instead of the hospitals using their own resources will save money while not changing patient care.
Hospitals in Indiana are finding out that isn’t the reality when it comes to chemotherapy.
On April 1, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Indiana, the state’s largest health insurer, began requiring hospitals and clinics to buy chemotherapy drugs from CVS Specialty, a unit of pharmacy giant CVS Health or lower their prices to match CVS.
At Margaret Mary Health in Batesville, for example, every chemotherapy patient has seen a delay in chemotherapy medication delivery, with five patients experiencing a wait of a week or more, said Liz Leising, the hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer and Vice-President of Patient Services. ....
