Dispatcher's suit against town dismissed, while claims against chief still pending


A state Supreme Court judge has dismissed a $10 million lawsuit filed by a Riverhead Town police dispatcher, who claimed the town created a “hostile work environment and sexual harassment” at the town police department.
The 13-page decision issued April 26 by state Supreme Court Judge William Ford ordered that Melissa Breitenbach Elco’s lawsuit “is dismissed as to defendants Town of Riverhead,
Riverhead Town Police Department, [Supervisor] Yvette Aguiar in her official and individual capacities.”
The judge, however, did not dismiss charges filed individually against Police Chief David Hegermiller, although the charges against him in his official capacity were dismissed.

Suffolk County District Attorney Timothy D. Sini, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (“HSI”) and members of the District Attorney’s Office’s East End Drug Task Force (“EEDTF”) have announced the indictment of 12 individuals, several of whom are members of the 18th Street gang, in connection with an alleged drug distribution operation.
 
“This was a multi-agency effort that resulted in the takedown of major drug traffickers selling crack cocaine and powder cocaine, and doing so in a way that was terrorizing the community,” District Attorney Sini said. “They were selling in front of retail establishments and in public areas, and the people selling those drugs were dangerous gang members. It was quite a blast at the power of the Suffolk police unions in The New York Times last month two full pages with the headline: “The County Where Cops Call The Shots.” The county is Suffolk, and the article was written by Farah Stockman, a member of The Times editorial board. 
It began by quoting a person who cannot be described as “anti-police:” Suffolk Legislator Rob Trotta, “a cranky Republican county legislator on Long Island who worked as a [Suffolk] cop for 25 years,” an “unlikely voice for police reform,” according to the story.  ....
