Equity market gains N46bn on blue chip firms

Equity trading on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Monday closed on the positive note with a gain of N46bn as the bulls regained grip on trading activities.
The market performance indices, NSE ASI, appreciated by 0.21 per cent with market breathe, however, closing negative with 19 gainers against 30 losers.
Consequently, the All-Share Index grew by 86.97 basis points or 0.21 per cent from 41,001.99 index points last Friday to 41,088.96 while the market capitalisation of equities appreciated by N46bn to close at N21.49tn from N21.45tn.
On the activity chart, the banking sub-sector dominated in volume terms with 64.12m shares exchanged in 938 deals. The sub-sector was enhanced by the activities in the shares of Fidelity Bank Plc and Union Bank Plc. ....

ON Monday, the Federal Government announced a N10 billion fund to support domestic vaccine production to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
At the briefing by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, PTF, in Abuja, Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, revealed that the Ministry of Finance had released the sum to support efforts aimed at developing an indigenous COVID-19 vaccine.
Although the minister said the government, in collaboration with recognised institutions, was already exploring options for obtaining licence for the local production of vaccines, there were no critical information, definite work plan or detailed breakdown about how Nigeria plans to go about it. ....

The equity market, on Monday, returned to positive territory as the Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index and market capitalisation rose by 0.08 per cent.
The market breadth closed on a positive note with 28 gainers against 24 decliners.
The ASI grew by 30.56 basis points or 0.08 per cent from 40,120.22bps last Friday to 40,150.78bps on Monday while the market capitalisation of equities appreciated by N16bn to close at N20.99tn from N20.98tn.
On the activity chart, the insurance subsector dominated in volume terms with 153.12 million shares exchanged in 373 deals. The subsector was enhanced by the activities in the shares of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc and AXA Mansard Insurance Plc. ....

Nigerian stocks, on Wednesday, sustained its positive outlook for the third day as the All-Share Index and market capitalisation rose further by 0.76 per cent each.
Market watchers attributed the development to renewed confidence as bargain hunters continued to leverage on undervalued stocks.
The market breadth closed positive as the number of gainers at the close of trading session was 26 while decliners closed at 13.
The All-Share Index rose by 267.93 basis points or 0.76 per cent to close at 35,493.15 index points as against 35,225.22 recorded the previous day.
The market capitalisation of equities appreciated by N140bn or 0.76 per cent to close higher at N18.55tn from N18.41tn as market sentiment remained on the green territory. ....
