The Phillipsburg Town Council on Tuesday approved a pair of controversial measures rezoning a riverside site for industrial use, and telling the Phillipsburg Free Public Library that it owes the town $160,000.
The council vote was 3-2 on both measures, each time with Councilmembers Frank McVey, Bobby Fulper and Randy Piazza Jr. in favor and Harry Wyant and Danielle DeGerolamo dissenting. ....

Warren County Democrats are accusing Phillipsburg Town Council President Frank McVey of “intentionally and maliciously” mispronouncing a woman’s name.
During the Feb. 25 meeting of the Phillipsburg Land Use Board, McVey introduces himself as a private citizen and refers to a social media post by Warren County Democratic Committee Vice Chairwoman Theresa Bender Chapman. ....

Phillipsburg council wants to know if meetings were caught up in alleged spying scheme

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic pushing its meetings to Zoom, Phillipsburg Town Council met at the Phillipsburg Housing Authority’s Heckman House.
The authority’s executive director, Paul Rummerfield, now faces charges of official misconduct and related counts after he allegedly installed cameras and microphones to spy on employees.
Council last week voted to have the town’s attorney, Rich Wenner, reach out to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office to see if any of its meetings either public or behind closed doors were caught in the alleged surveillance scheme. ....

This week’s snowfall, the second-biggest accumulation on record in the Lehigh Valley, is stretching plow crews to their limits.
In Easton and Phillipsburg, that has meant bringing in contractors to assist with removing the snow clogging streets and alleys.
“This is historic,” Phillipsburg Mayor Todd Tersigni said Wednesday, about 24 hours after the storm subsided. “This is the 25-year event. There was no other way.”
To hire contractors with loaders and dump trucks, Easton and Phillipsburg are competing with neighboring municipalities to bring in whatever extra help is available, Easton officials said in an update Wednesday. The city was able to hire eight contractors. ....
