editorial@newsandsentinel.com CHARLESTON Two people from the region were confirmed Wednesday as deaths from the COVID-19 coronavirus by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. The state reported the deaths of an 86-year-old woman from Wood County and am 88-year-old woman from Wetzel County, according to the Wednesday morning pandemic update from the department. Fourteen more deaths were reported in the 24-hour period from Tuesday to Wednesday morning. The state’s death count as of Wednesday was 2,748 residents since the pandemic began a year ago. The number of deaths in Wood County as of Wednesday was 169 and 30 in Wetzel in County. Total deaths from other counties were: Calhoun 0; Doddridge 6; Gilmer 5; Jackson 61; Pleasants 11; Ritchie 11; Roane 9; Tyler 10; Wirt 3 ....

Over the weekend, seven deaths from the virus were confirmed in the 24-hour period from Friday to Saturday mornings, the state said. No deaths were reported in the period from Saturday to Sunday, the state said. Deaths Monday were reported in Berkeley, Wayne and Kanawha counties. The youngest was a 63-year-old man from Kanawha County. Deaths this weekend were reported in Monongalia, Kanawha, Raleigh, Boone, Ohio and Marshall counties, the state said. The hospital announced the arrival of the two antibody treatments that help COVID patients Wednesday. “Monoclonal Antibody treatment has been shown to reduce the severity of COVID-19 illness and decrease the need for hospitalization,” Roane General said. “The key to its use will be the early diagnosis of COVID-19 and infusion of the monoclonal antibodies within 10 days of the onset of symptoms.” Those who have a positive COVID test can call the hospital at 304-927-6207 for more information about receiving the treatment. ....
