HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - Dozens of people came to the Richmond Raceway on Sunday afternoon for a walk-up mass vaccination clinic focused on helping residents who are refugees, immigrants and minorities.
The clinic offered the Moderna vaccine along with on-site registration and translators for those that spoke another language.
âThis event is specifically for those of immigrant and refugee communities with a special focus on those of Asian and Hispanic descent,â said Monica Smith-Callahan, deputy county manager for community affairs with Henrico County. ....

HENRICO, Va. (WWBT) - Henrico County will host a walk-in COVID-19 vaccine clinic for residents who are immigrants, refugees and minorities and want the shot.
The county has partnered with the Asian and Latino Solidarity Alliance of Central Virginia and other organizations to vaccinate residents who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
The clinic will be on Sunday, April 25 from 1-4 p.m. at the Old Dominion Building at the Richmond Raceway, 600 East Laburnum Avenue. ....

On March 16, 2021, a gunman targeted three Atlanta spas, killing eight people - six of whom were Asian women. Less than two weeks later, video surveillance caught a man attacking a 65 year-old Filipino-American woman in New York City - pushing her to the ground, kicking her stomach and stomping her face as he shouted anti-Asian slurs. And just this month, eight workers were murdered at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis. Four of them were Sikhs. ....

More than 60 people gathered recently in Southside Richmond for the candlelight vigil to commemorate the Atlanta shooting victims and to call attention to recent anti-Asian violence.

The vigil was one of numerous events across Virginia this past March as communities, advocates and lawmakers came together in response to the murder of eight people in Atlanta.
