Leading Democrats on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform are pushing $9 billion in technology refresh money as part of the larger $1.9 trillion pandemic relief and recovery package being pushed by the Biden administration.
In a Jan. 27 letter led by Oversight Chairwoman Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) and Government Operations Subcommittee Chairman Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), lawmakers stressed the importance of expanding the Technology Modernization Fund – a pot of no-year money that agencies can tap for projects to improve service delivery, to move systems to the cloud and other efforts to cast off expensive and creaky legacy systems. ....

F-35 sustainment continues at RAF Marham - Military Logistics

BAE Systems acts as industry lead for Lightning Team UK.
BAE Systems announced on 14 January that it will act as on-site industry lead on a support operations contract between the F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO) and Lockheed Martin in the UK.
The two-year contract at RAF Marham is worth about $101 million, with work at RAF Marham including maintenance, mission planning and training services for the RAF and RN Fleet Air Arm F-35B fleet.
This extends an existing sustainment service at RAF Marham (home to 21 F-35Bs) and will provide aircraft upgrades, maintenance, synthetic and maintainer training on-base, ‘along with the ability to customise specialist pilot equipment at one of the first Pilot Fit Facilities outside of the United States’, BAE Systems noted. ....

GE makes engines for King Stallion Lot Five production - Defence Helicopter

Three turboshaft engines equip the CH-53K, giving the heavy-lift helicopter the power to carry a 12,000kg external load.
GE Aviation is to produce 21 T408-GE-400 turboshaft engines and associated services in support of CH-53K King Stallion Lot Five low rate initial production aircraft, the US DoD announced on 13 January.
Work on the $101.47 million contract modification from Naval Sea Systems Command will be completed by December 2024.
Three 7,500shp-class T408-GE-400 engines equip the CH-53K, giving the heavy-lift helicopter the power to carry a 12,000kg external load over a mission radius of 200km in hot weather conditions. This is nearly triple the external load-carrying capacity of current aircraft. ....
