Heartless vandals smashed wooden planters, damaged play equipment and stole toys after breaking into the garden of a nursery school.
Children and staff were left devastated after thieves broke into the garden at the YMCA Childcare St. Margaret’s Road setting in Lowestoft last month.

Having only unveiled a brand new play area last September, shocked staff were left reeling after numerous items were stolen and considerable damage was caused at some point between 9am on April 23 and 8pm on April 26.
JMS students win silver medals at East Tennessee History Day

Jefferson Middle School students Jacob Mohr and Henry Landau placed second with their Junior Group Exhibit “Secret Communication in World War II” and Isabella Liu placed second with her Junior Individual Paper “Stonewall: Fueling a Movement” at 20th annual East Tennessee History Day.
Winners were announced via Zoom on Saturday, March 6. This year’s virtual event featured 125 students and 78 projects. Grades 6 through 12 participated at the regional level from 16 public, private and home schools in eight counties, according to a news release.
First- and second-place winners, with third-place winners serving as alternates, advanced to the state competition, Tennessee History Day on April 10. State winners will advance to nationals in College Park, Md., to be held virtually in June 2021. CORVALLIS, Ore. A recent study from Oregon State University found that after Oregon expanded Medicaid in 2014, more women were able to receive insurance coverage for abortion services, rather than paying out of pocket.
In analyzing Medicaid claims data and other medical records, researchers found that the Medicaid-financed share of total abortions increased each of the first three years following the state s Medicaid expansion. The incidence of Medicaid-financed abortions increased 18% in 2014, then 7% each in 2015 and 2016.
The total number of abortions in the state did not rise; rather, the expansion shifted who paid for them. According to the literature, there was a 1% decline in the abortion rate in Oregon between 2014 and 2017. OSU studies find Oregon’s Medicaid expansion improved prenatal care access, birth outcomes
CORVALLIS, Ore. – A pair of recent studies from Oregon State University found that Oregon’s Medicaid expansion in 2014 has led to increased prenatal care among low-income women, as well as improved health outcomes for newborn babies.
In the three years after the expansion, one study found that Oregon saw an almost 2 percentage point increase in first trimester prenatal care utilization, relative to 18% of the pre-expansion population who lacked any access to prenatal care in the earlier stages of pregnancy.
In the same period, the second study found, Medicaid expansion was associated with a 29% reduction in low birthweight among babies born to women on Medicaid, as well as a 23% reduction in preterm births.
