Bourne accepting student art FacebookTwitterEmail MORRISONVILLE State Rep. Avery Bourne, R-Morrisonville, accepting entries for her annual Student Art Contest. Students throughout the 95th District including all or part of Madison, Macoupin, Montgomery and Christian counties can submit original, Illinois themed entries through mid-April. Submit any 2-D medium works on an 8.5-by-11-inch paper and include the title of the artwork, their name, grade and school on the back of their work. Entries must be submitted by mail or in person to Bourne’s office at 106 E. Columbian Blvd. North, Litchfield. Winners will have their artwork displayed in Bourne’s district office and shown to the General Assembly. They also will receive a certificate from the Illinois House of Representatives. ....
Robert Miller: The science and power behind ice storms FacebookTwitterEmail Last week, while much of the state got rained on, I got iced. I live on the northeast edge of Litchfield County. In my town, and the towns nearby, it was cold enough at ground level that the rain froze when it fell on tree limbs, railings and clotheslines. The birches in my yard were suitably bent. A lot of this had to do with elevation and cold pockets of air when I drove east, downhill, the ice was a no-show. Nor did the rain which forecasters first thought might glaze larger parts of Fairfield and Litchfield counties freeze much of anything there. ....

Sherman library hosts virtual Iceland program Feb. 12 Feb. 6, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail 3of5 5of5 SHERMAN Gerri Griswold, who has visited Iceland 51 times, will give a free virtual presentation called “Iceland Through My Heart,” on Friday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. This program is part of the Sherman Library’s Travel from Home series offered remotely on Zoom. Griswold is the director of administration and development at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield. Visitors can take a one-hour trip 66 degrees north and be overwhelmed by the landscape, nature, and people of this country, which boasts 100 percent literacy, is home to the first Parliament established in 930 AD, and possesses the cleanest air and water on the planet, the library announcement said. ....
