Water and Light dispute moves to courts in April

Water and Light dispute moves to courts in April
March 10, 2021LITTLETON An ongoing dispute between the Town of Littleton, the Department of Revenue Administration and the Littleton Water and Light Department will be heard by the courts on April 7, said DRA Municipal and Property Division Director James Gerry.
Last Oct, DRA officials sent the Select Board a demand letter for LWL s compliance, threatening potential legal action against the town or a downward adjustment to Littleton s tax rates. The DRA document made it clear the agency would take action directly against the municipality instead of LWL.
Town officials argue that neither the Town Manager nor the Selectmen had any direct legal control or supervisory authority over LWL Commissioners Schuyler Sweet, Ralph Ross or Peter Cooper. The petition also stated that either of the DRA s proposed adverse actions would cause a significant financial impact on Littleton s operating budget. ....

Water and Light a focus at Littleton deliberative session

Water and Light a focus at Littleton deliberative session
February 11, 2021LITTLETON Despite a dramatic start to last Thursday s deliberative session, residents passed the proposed $10,285,000 municipal budget unchallenged. However, a warrant article about the Littleton Water and Light Department s operating budget drew extended dialogue from voters.
Exactly like the last two years, a motion was made from the floor during early proceedings to approve all social service warrant articles into one vote for inclusion on the ballot. Yet unlike previous sessions, opponents were outspoken as they challenged the legality of such a move.
Board Chair Carrie Gendreau explained the motion.
She said, Because of COVID this year, we chose not to have those organizations go out and get the signatures. So we put them under the petition warrant article heading, but they re really social services. They re the same, and as long as the services did not want to change what they were ....
