Mayor Bill de Blasio, first lady Chirlane McCray and Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza on Monday announced a mental health plan to help better support students during the pandemic.
The first phase will focus on the 27 communities most affected by Covid-19, with plans to ultimately make new mental health supports available to students citywide, the mayor s office said.
The trauma of the pandemic has been acutely felt by our youngest New Yorkers, de Blasio said in a statement. In New York City, we believe that mental health care is a human right, and our students will not navigate this pain and grief alone. ....

Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Long Island was one of the first nursing homes in the state to begin vaccinating staff and residents.
COMMACK, N.Y. - Gurwin Jewish Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Commack on Monday was one of the first nursing homes to receive a supply of COVID-19 vaccine doses to vaccinate the most vulnerable.
Chief nursing officer Lynette Rutherford was first in line. After contracting COVID-19 twice, she couldn t be more relieved to get a vaccine, she said.
I wanted to just do it because I think it ll make a difference, Rutherford said. My hope is that with this vaccine if enough people take it it will allow people to see there s a light at the end of the tunnel. ....
