Luana Pinheiro has released a statement on her disqualification win over Randa Markos at UFC Vegas 25, firing back at her opponent and critics who questioned her behavior in the fight.
In a prepared statement sent to MMA Fighting, Pinheiro, who was declared the winner in the first round after Markos landed an illegal upkick, called her opponent’s claim that the kick “grazed” her “a joke.” She stopped short of calling the kick intentional, but indicated she was winning the fight when it took place.
Several current and former fighters questioned how much Pinheiro was hurt by Markos’ kick and accused her of faking injury. But former middleweight champ Michael Bisping put the responsibility for the ultimate result on the referee, who ruled the shot intentional and triggered the disqualification.

Michael Bisping defends Luana Pinheiro following fan backlash from her DQ win at UFC Vegas 25

UFC legend Michael Bisping has defended Luana Pinheiro following her somewhat controversial disqualification win over Randa Markos.
Pinheiro seemed to be on her way to victory after a strong start to the bout, only for an illegal upkick to alter the trajectory of the fight completely. Markos was disqualified with Pinheiro being awarded the win, with many fans questioning Pinheiro’s behavior in the lead-up to the decision being made.
Bisping, who was on commentary duty that night, had the following to say regarding the incident.
“Listen, a lot of people are suggesting that she was acting and I think that’s a little unfair, to be honest,” Bisping said on his

Michael Bisping believes Luana Pinheiro was legitimately hurt after being hit with an illegal upkick during her fight against Randa Markos at UFC Vegas 26, and to suggest otherwise is unfair to her.
During an exchange on the ground towards the end of the first round, Markos caught Pinheiro with an upkick to the face. The reaction of the Brazilian was to fall back to the canvas in obvious pain, but many — including UFC color commentator Paul Felder and Markos — questioned its authenticity considering how delayed it was.

Luana Pinheiro reacts to DQ win over Randa Markos at UFC Vegas 25: "Nobody feels more than I do for the outcome of the fight"

“Hey guys!!! Coming here to first say that I’m fine! Second, I want to thank everyone for their support, both before and after the fight. I want to thank all my team that worked very closely with me to get our best version for this fight. My coaches @dede_pederneiras @matheusnicolaumma @pedrofalcaomma @kauafernandesmma @piratiev_oficial @gigiodiniz, my doctor @drfelipepereira, my physical trainer @itallovilardo, my physiotherapist @fisiofelipemaia, my coach @lilianvillaca_ and all my partners. Nobody wanted this victory more than me and nobody feels more than I do for the outcome of the fight. I imagined a thousand possibilities of my arm ending up raised and none of them was the way it ended up happening. But regardless of the outcome it was not how I wanted it and how I worked for it, I am happy for all the work I did to get well prepared for the fight. I will work hard to continue looking for my evolution and bring my best version in the next challenges. Thanks for everything and let’s go, we still have a long way to go!”

This past weekend, the main fight on the UFC Vegas 26 prelims played host to some controversy when Randa Markos was disqualified in the first round of her bout with Luana Pinheiro for throwing an illegal upkick that rendered Pinheiro unable to continue. After the bout, Markos accused Pinheiro of taking a dive to get the win, a belief shared by several other fans and fighters. Notably though, it’s a view that is not shared by one of the men closest to the action on Saturday night.
UFC Hall of Famer and current color commentator Michael Bisping was sitting cageside for the fight between Pinheiro and Markos and the former middleweight champion believes Pinheiro truly was unable to continue, even if the incident looked a little weird.

Dominick Reyes could be feeling the effects of his loss to Jiri Prochazka even more in the months to come.
In the light heavyweight main event of UFC Vegas 25 on Saturday, Reyes came out on the wrong end of a brutal striking battle that ended with him being knocked out by a spinning back elbow from Prochazka in round two.
According to the list of medical suspensions acquired by mixedmartialarts.com, the fight left Reyes with multiple facial injuries that could see him out of action until the end of October. Reyes requires clearance from an eye, nose, and throat doctor or an oral and maxillofacial doctor after an initial assessment of nasal bone fractures, a right displaced orbital medial wall fracture, and a left displaced orbital zygomatic arch fracture.
