UK Doctoral Candidate Tackling Black Health Disparities

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 19, 2021) – Jardin Dogan says her clinical practice and own life experiences have inspired her research, which is helping to eliminate mental, social and sexual health disparities for Black people.
The counseling psychology doctoral candidate in the University of Kentucky’s College of Education counsels people who are experiencing mental health issues from racial trauma, substance abuse and criminal justice involvement.
“I have dealt with some of the same struggles within my own family,” said Dogan. “The truth is that many Black people are directly or indirectly impacted by these issues, but they remain taboo. Working with my clients has informed my research, which I hope will open up the dialogue on some of these issues no one really talks about.” ....

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. (LEX 18) â The Lexington VA Health Care System (LVAHCS) made about 200 Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines available to the military community during a pop-up vaccination clinic on Saturday.
The vaccine clinic held in Lawrenceburg, Ky. is part of a partnership between Walmart and the LVAHCS to reach Kentuckyâs veterans, their spouses, partners, and caregivers.

Dec. 15 While the first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were arriving in Lexington Monday to be administered to health care workers, the city was working on getting the vaccine to those next in line.
We have no idea exactly how many doses we will be getting and when, said Susan Straub, spokeswoman for Mayor Linda Gorton s office.
Lexington s first vaccine doses were sent directly to Baptist Health Lexington and University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. Local nursing homes were also expected to get doses administered by Walgreens and CVS through federal partnerships. ....

WASHINGTON The Department of Veterans Affairs on Monday administered its first doses of the coronavirus vaccine as part of national inoculation effort to prevent the disease as the death toll from the virus surpassed 300,000 in the United States.
World War II Army veteran Margaret Klessens, 96, is the VA’s first patient to receive the vaccine, VA Secretary Robert Wilkie announced. She is a patient of the Bedford Healthcare System in Massachusetts. The Bedford VA system is a set of three clinics outside of Boston that has seen 473 coronavirus infections and 39 deaths, according to the VA. ....
