In the years since 1996, when the New Hampshire Legislature opened up the purchase of electric power to free market competition, I received lots of calls at the Lebanon Housing Authority from commercial brokers offering to save us money by supplying us power. Even though our electric bill was substantial, I couldn’t face having to constantly check and repeatedly negotiate over electric rates.
In the intervening years, most big businesses in Lebanon have saved money by utilizing competitive suppliers of power, while some 6,000 residents and 1,000 small businesses have simply stayed with buying power from Liberty Utilities at whatever default rate it offers. ....

Upper Valley residents get COVID-19 vaccine in their building

Nearly 50 residents at Rogers House received a COVID-19 vaccine Thursday, according to the Lebanon Housing Authority and they were administered in the building. Beth McShinsky with the Lebanon Housing Authority said the Lebanon Fire Department and the Public Health Council of the Upper Valley contacted them a few weeks ago asking how many residents would be eligible. At the time we really didn t know much about how the distribution was working. We did know that there was gonna be an online registration and a number to call but we know a lot of our residents do struggle with things like that, many don t have any internet access at all and transportation was another huge barrier, so we were fortunate to have these organizations reach out to us, McShinsky said. The effort to bring the vaccines to Rogers House was a joint effort by the Lebanon Fire Department and the Public Health Coun ....
