Vacancies, no candidates in many municipal elections in Lewis County


LOWVILLE — There are 14 village and town offices throughout Lewis County that have no candidates to fill them after the deadline for party line petitions passed Thursday, but there are some offices that will have both primary and Election Day battles.
“There are a few good races shaping up, but the real story this year is that there are so many positions without any candidates,” Democratic Commissioner of the county Board of Elections Lindsay Burriss said. “It’s more than I’ve seen before.”
Tax collectors and council members are the majority of positions that have no candidates so far. The towns each have two council positions up for election this year, but five towns have only one candidate that filed petitions under one of the major political party lines. ....

Lowville Food Pantry seeking funds to complete construction project


LOWVILLE — Lowville Food Pantry CEO Daniel N. Taylor has announced that the public has the opportunity to make their donations count twice.
He said an anonymous donor put up $25,000 with the hopes the public would match the amount. From April 1 to May 31, every dollar donated will be matched by the anonymous donor up to $25,000.
Mr. Taylor said the funds collected will be used to complete construction on the new Lowville Food Pantry building.
“It’s looking good,” the CEO said of the construction project. “They are finishing up the trim work, along with the heating, electrical and plumbing work. Things are falling into place. We need to have inspections done and we hope to move in May.” ....

Lewis & Clark Tap Room brings back live music and plans expanded venue


Music is roaring back at the Lewis & Clark Tap Room, starting in April.
Not only are some of your favorite music acts back on stage, but so are some local music festivals — plus a new one — Wake the Giant Music Revival.
And, there’s more good news for ‘live music’ lovers.
The Tap Room will be expanding its indoor venue area, growing from 250-occupancy to about 500, said Lewis & Clark Brewing Company owner Max Pigman.
The remodel will add a larger stage area, a larger audience area with better visibility and an upgraded sound system.
