More workers will be able to avoid self-isolation if they are a contact of a Covid case as the government expands workplace testing in England.
Police, firefighters, Border Force staff, transport and freight workers were already eligible for exemption from self-isolation in some cases.
But their employers needed to specify the workers' names, and they had to be double-jabbed.
Now they will be able to join the daily contact workplace testing scheme.
Fifteen testing sites were initially announced - although they won't be running until at least Monday.
The government has now announced "an expected initial 200 new testing sites", and the wider range of eligible sectors.

A scheme to allow key workers to avoid Covid self-isolation in England has been significantly expanded following criticism it did not go far enough.
Police, fire, Border Force, transport and freight staff will now be able to join a daily workplace test scheme, whether they are vaccinated or not.
As many as 10,000 supermarket depot and food factory workers will also be eligible.
Several sectors have warned of staff shortages in recent days.
Currently, most people identified as close contacts of someone with coronavirus have to self-isolate for 10 days.

Over one million people booked a vaccine yesterday

Over one million people booked a vaccine yesterday
Shock, the day young people got offered the vaccine was the day of record-breaking sign-ups
5 hours ago
Over one million vaccines were booked yesterday on the NHS website, on the same day that it was announced people 25 and over could finally book their vaccines. The number makes it the most seen in a single day so far.
Sir Simon Stevens, chief executive of the NHS in England, said: “The obvious enthusiasm of younger adults to get their jab has blown out of the water the suggestion that people in their 20s might not come forward to protect themselves and their loved ones.”

NICOLA Sturgeon has issued a damning condemnation of the UK Government and its immigration policy after protesters in Glasgow forced the Home Office to release men detained in dawn raids in Scotland’s largest city.
Police Scotland were called in the morning of May 13 to protect a Home Office van from protesters after officers detained men in Kenmure Street in the Pollokshields area of Glasgow.
After around eight hours, the decision was taken to release the detainees and ask the protesters to disperse.

It shouldn't be a shock to the Left-wing media that people vote Tory

It shouldn't be a shock to the Left-wing media that people vote Tory
The broadcast media and the cultural elite continue to exist in an echo chamber detached from the public

I think Boris can safely re-tile the kitchen now. Much of the broadcast media was convinced his No 10 makeover would hurt him in last Thursday’s elections: we weren’t far off a

Have I Got News for You on Friday, recorded when the votes weren’t counted but obvious nevertheless, was funereal. Why, the host asked, didn’t Wallpapergate cut through? Given that this show created the Boris phenomenon, much like
