LAKE PLACID — After taking the weekend off, construction crews upgrading Main Street plan to continue their excavation of the water main from Monday to Friday, May 10 to 14, according to Haley Breen, community development director for the town of North Elba and village of Lake Placid.
After installing the 16-inch water line, working from the north end of the village, workers pressure-test and disinfect the new line before connecting service to the buildings. The target area this week is from Saranac Avenue to Hayes Street.
This week, workers began installing stormwater drainage on Parkside Drive, working toward Mirror Lake Drive, and that section of Parkside Drive was closed for the week. Mirror Lake Drive was also closed from Saranac Avenue to Swiss Road for several days beginning May 3 for pavement removal.

On May 4, 2021, David Anthony “Tony” Kilburn, 70, passed away peacefully at his home in Lake Placid surrounded by his family and friends.
Tony was born on June 18, 1950, to Mary Louise (Barney) and George Kilburn in Lake Placid. Tony came from a large family. He is survived by his brothers Ronald Joseph and William, and his sisters Sharron Kilburn, Lolly Chainao and Sandy Mihill. He is predeceased by his brother Gene Kilburn and sisters Vallie Kilburn and Priscilla Kilburn. He loved them all.
In February 2020, through a home DNA test, Tony discovered he had even more family in the area. He spent the last year truly enjoying his newly found brothers Jon Hough and Ernest Hough III, and sisters Starr Hough and Heather Dreissigacker. He is predeceased by his sister Beth Hough. These new relationships meant so much to Tony in the short time he had to enjoy them.

LAKE PLACID — A representative of the Lake Placid Arts Alliance outlined the group’s proposal for a local public art master plan on Monday, which calls for the creation of an inventory of existing public art pieces, suggests the creation of a maintenance plan for those pieces moving forward and the creation of an art fund.
The plan, presented by LPAA Chairperson Lori Fitzgerald to the Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees, comes as officials consider relocating two sculptures created for the 1980 Olympic Winter Games.
The Olympic Center on Main Street, which is operated by the state Olympic Regional Development Authority, is currently being renovated — and two sculptures on the property, James Buchman’s “Vans for Ruth” and Carl Nesjar’s “Sonja Henie Ice Fountain,” are expected to be relocated elsewhere. It’s unclear who owns the sculptures now, or who would own and maintain them once they’re moved, Fitzgerald told the board on Monday.
