Former Chargers LB Donnie Edwards Honors Vets Through Best Defense Foundation

Taking care of the ones who took care of us.
That s the mission of the Best Defense Foundation, founded by former Chargers linebacker Donnie Edwards in 2018. Edwards was the recipient of the NFL s Salute to Service Award for his exceptional efforts in honoring and supporting members of the military community.
To date, Edwards has taken over 100 World War II veterans back to the battlefields in which they served. During the pandemic, he led vaccination efforts for WWII vets. Edwards has plans to take an upwards of 40 veterans back to Hawaii for the upcoming 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. ....

One of our favorite Super Bowl rituals is the announcement of the NFL s Salute to Service Award presented by USAA. The honor recognizes a member of the league community who s made exceptional efforts to honor and support the military community.
Steve Cannon, an Army veteran who s president of the Atlanta Falcons parent company, is the recipient of the award for the 2020 season.
Even though each one of the 32 NFL teams submits a nominee at the beginning of the season, the Falcons organization seems to have a lock on the award. Cannon marks the fourth Falcon player or employee to receive it in the last five years, following former coach Dan Quinn (2016), wide receiver Andre Roberts (2017) and center and Air Force Academy grad Ben ....

The NFL honor is meant to highlight those who go above and beyond supporting America s military community.
ATLANTA - Atlanta Falcons executive Steve Cannon is the recipient of the NFL’s Salute to Service Award.
Now in its 10th year, the award recognizes exceptional efforts to honor and support members of the military community. It will be presented Saturday at NFL Honors, when The Associated Press announces its individual NFL awards.
USAA, a provider of insurance and other services to U.S. military members, veterans, and their families, will contribute $25,000 in Cannon’s honor to the official aid societies representing all five military branches. The NFL and Falcons owner Arthur Blank will match USAA’s donation of $25,000, which will be donated to Cannon’s military charity of ch ....
