CSKT completes first-of-its-kind Tribal Community Response Plan to address MMIP

BILLINGS - A major step in addressing the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) epidemic was celebrated Thursday, as the nation s first Tribal Community Response Plan (TCRP) has been completed.
This plan is meant to create a more efficient and effective response to missing persons of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT).Â
The tribe, along with representatives from federal, tribal, state and local law enforcement, developed guidelines for the plan through a series of meetings and discussions. They began to formulate this plan exactly four months ago, which they also said took a lot of hard work to make it a reality. ....

International Transgender Visibility Day is celebrated on the heels of Virginia issuing school guidelines that are inclusive of transgender students

Transgender and nonbinary students in Virginia will soon be able to use their pronouns and name of choice at school, according to new guidelines from the Virginia Department of Education that school districts must adopt come September.
VDOEâs model guidelines were issued in March, a month bookended annually by International Transgender Day of Visibility on March 31, a day to celebrate the transgender community and raise awareness about the discrimination the community faces.
The commemoration was founded in 2009 by Rachel Crandall-Crocker, a psychotherapist and executive director of Transgender Michigan, who said in a Wednesday column for the online LGBTQ magazine âThemâ that she wanted the community to have more than the Transgender Day of Remembrance, observed annually on Nov. 20. ....

UGA COVID-19 cases remain steady, positivity rate sees increase

The University of Georgia reported 33 COVID-19 cases over the week of March 22-28, a steady but slight increase from the 32 cases a week before. Since the start of 2021, the university has reported 1,445 positive cases. Since the start of the pandemic, UGA has reported 6,749 positive cases.
Of the 33 cases reported this week, nine were from UGAâs surveillance testing program for volunteers without symptoms; eight were from the University Health Centerâs testing program primarily for students with symptoms; two were from Athens testing sites and the remaining 14 were from the âotherâ category, which includes positive tests both inside and outside of Athens. In total, 30 students and three employees tested positive. ....
