Australian scientists have made progress on a potential new approach that could be used to treat some of the most deadly brain cancers.
A new magnetic nanoparticle could be used in combination with radiation treatment and heat therapy to kill cancer cells, according to new research from the University of Wollongong and ANSTO.
The lead researchers from UOW and its clinical partners collaborated with ANSTO’s Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering to study the magnetic properties of the nanoparticles. ....

More than $2.3 million for councils to manage their coastlines
The NSW Government today announced more than $2.3 million in coastal funding has been awarded to councils through the 2020-2021 Coastal and Estuary Grants Program’s planning stream which will provide assistance to councils in managing their coastlines.
Minister for Local Government Shelley Hancock congratulated the councils of Ballina Shire, Bellingen Shire, Byron Shire, City of Canterbury-Bankstown, Fairfield City, Kiama Municipal, Shoalhaven City and Wollongong City in partnership with Shellharbour City on their successful applications for funding.
“This funding will ensure councils are supported as they manage the health of our unique coasts and estuaries while improving the resilience of coastal communities through well-planned action,” Mrs Hancock said. ....

An outspoken former Married At First Sight bride alleges she lost out on a plum breakfast radio job after Channel Nine pressured the station to withdraw its offer.
Poppy Jennings, who appeared on season seven of MAFS last year, claims she was offered a six-figure position to be part of a presenting trio on Illawarra s No. 1 radio station but the deal was nixed when Nine stepped in.
The mother of two, 39, believes Nine asked the station, which is owned by WIN Corporation, to rescind the offer in response to her criticising the show publicly.
