(Bloomberg Law) Alaska Airlines’s flight attendant uniform policy discriminates against nonbinary workers by forcing them to “conform to rigid gender stereotypes,” the ACLU alleged in a Friday letter demanding that the airline alter its dress code.
The American Civil Liberties Union wrote the letter on behalf of Seattle-based flight attendant Justin Wetherell, whose gender identity is nonbinary, or not strictly male or female, and whose gender expression is fluid and can change over time. ....

A bill that would empower workers to help enforce state labor laws against wage theft and the like narrowly escaped the House Appropriations committee earlier this week and will head to the floor soon. The 17-16 committee vote saw opposition from Republicans (duh) and two Democrats; Reps. Larry Springer (D-Kirkland) and Steve Tharinger (D-Sequim).
The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Drew Hansen (D-Bainbridge Island), would allow workers to sue bosses on behalf of coworkers and the state when companies violate some labor laws. ....

Every once in a while the fact that Americans lose three times more money to wage theft than they do to all other forms of theft shocks me out of an afternoon stupor and prompts me to reach for my pitchfork. But now that farm-tool-wielding mobs are a bit passé again, employees vulnerable to wage-thieving bosses will have to settle for the opportunity to rally behind the Workers Protection Act, a bill from Democratic State House Rep. Drew Hansen that would allow workers to sue on behalf of the state and their-coworkers when their bosses violate labor laws. ....
