Councillors have agreed to spend more than £40,000 upgrading ageing CCTV cameras in Wick and Thurso.
Members of Highland Council’s Caithness committee voted to use town centre funding to digitalise the analogue systems and connect them to the authority’s CCTV monitoring office.
A total of £16,100 will be used to upgrade the Wick town centre system and £25,625 for Thurso.
In September the Scottish Government announced extra funding through the Town Centre Fund as part of its national economic recovery stimulus package. Highland Council received an additional £1,066,000, providing an extra £56,104 for investing into Thurso and Wick. ....

Chair of the Caithness area committee Nicola Sinclair has welcomed an investment in the CCTV infrastructure for both Wick and Thurso town centres.
Members of the committee agreed yesterday (Friday) to use town centre funding to enhance the local surveillance system – £16,100 will be used to digitalise the existing ageing analogue public space CCTV in Wick and connect the new system into the council’s monitoring office with £25,625 to do the same for Thurso. ....

The cordoned off sites at each end of Wick s High Street will soon benefit from a temporary makeover in the shape of artistic murals.
Local artist Hannah Cambridge has been commissioned to paint over the grey hoardings surrounding the former Dominoes nightclub and Sloanes shop as part of an ongoing project by Wick Development Trust (Wick’s Heart) to develop these areas for the benefit of the community . ....

An additional funding of £12,000 was approved by the Caithness Committee today to fix inappropriate and unsatisfactory stonework after demolition of the former Sloans building in Wick.
Members of Highland Council’s Caithness Committee approved the additional funding for a project to bring new life to the site in the town s High Street.
