Scientists Estimate 2.5 Billion Tyrannosaurus Rexes Roamed the Earth

The most famous and well-known dinosaur is the Tyrannosaurus rex. For about two and a half million years, it roamed around the western part of North America. While we know quite a bit about this dinosaur based on several skeletons that have been found, it wasn’t entirely clear until recently as to how many of them walked the Earth.
According to new scientific research, an estimated 2.5 billion (that’s correct – billion!) of them roamed around the Earth. To put this into better perspective, an estimated 108 billion “modern”
Homo sapiens have walked the Earth in the last 50,000 years.
A research team that was led by a paleontologist from the University of California named Charles Marshall was able to calculate that astonishing number by using an ecological equation called Damuth’s Law where they focused on the connection between the dinosaur’s body size and the density of their population. In other words, the larger the creature, the lower its population d ....

Māori scientists are pulling cultural double shifts in helping their colleagues and institutions navigate te Ao Māori - leaving many feeling burnt out, time-poor and discriminated against.
A new AUT study, drawing on the experiences of a group of fulltime Māori researchers, explores an often-overlooked downside of institutions trying to lift cultural capacity in a sector where Māori remain severely under-represented. ....

In 2007, astronomers had discovered some mysterious signals, named fast radio burst (FRB), a phenomenon that they cannot yet explain. According to EarthSky, these bursts are short but strong. Although lasting .001 of a second long, the energy it radiates in that millisecond is stronger than what Sun puts out in three days. In April 2020, the fast radio burst repeated three times, once in January, following with July and then November. Currently, two scientist teams have been tasked with the mission to study the source of the FRB. Here is what has been discovered till now. ....

A recent study published in the journal Science Direct talks about Azhdarchid pterosaurs, which were the world s largest flying reptiles and remained poorly understood. As per the study, the X-ray computed tomography reveals a complex internal micro-architecture for three-dimensionally preserved, hyper-elongate cervical vertebrae of the Cretaceous azhdarchid pterosaur. The extremely long necks of the species have always been a captivating thing. The study revealed that the incorporation of the neural canal within the body of the vertebra and elongation of the centrum result in a “tube within a tube”, which was supported by helically distributed trabeculae. ....
