Apex court rules: Every asset non-disclosure or mis-declaration not sufficient for permanent disqualification

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has ruled that it is the credibility of the explanation given by a contesting candidate or lawmaker that would be the determining factor in deciding whether the non-disclosure of an asset carries with it an element of dishonesty or not.
It is now a well settled principle that every non-disclosure or mis-declaration is not sufficient grounds to permanently disqualify a lawmaker or contesting candidate, the ruling said, adding that the purpose and intention behind the non-disclosure or mis-declaration needs to be seen; the returned candidate would be disqualified only if he or she has dishonestly acquired assets and is hiding them to derive certain benefits. ....

Sheikh Abdullah Salim al Salmi, Executive President of the Capital Market Authority has issued a decision approving new rules for specifying the price of shares in public offerings which aim to regulate the issuances in an initial public offering through specifying the methods for determination of the prices of shares in public offerings and the procedures to be followed to ensure sound pricing process.
Decision No. 43/2021 was issued based on the Regulation for Public Joint Stock Companies, which was issued earlier this year.
On the importance of the rules, Mohammed Said al Abri, Vice President, Capital Market Sector said the new rules for specifying the offering prices will contribute to enhancing the readiness of the legislative infrastructure of the initial offerings in Oman through providing a clear legal framework for the mechanism of specifying the offering price for the companies desirous ....

Uber, Lyft and other gig-economy companies face a new challenge from the Biden administration to their use of contract workers, but as they gear up for a fight in Washington they could turn to a lobbying playbook that helped them score a decisive win against California regulators last year.
