The executive order on cyber security issued by the US on Thursday will be judged by whether it can stop the next attack similar to the Colonial Pipeline attack or the SolarWinds supply chain fiasco, the head of a security firm says.
Amit Yoran, the chief executive at security outfit Tenable, said the Colonial attack underlined how critical the new executive order was to the national security of the US.
The
order lists measures to be taken across software suppliers and purchasing, sharing of threat information, modernising the federal government s cyber security posture, and improving the security of software supply chains. ....

Code coverage and software auditing company Codecov recently suffered a supply-chain attack where a threat actor gained access to its Bash Uploader script, altering it to exfiltrate sensitive information from customer environments. Threat actors gained credentials to modify the script by taking advantage of weaknesses in Codecov’s Docker image creation process.

The Australian company behind a password manager that was subjected to a supply chain attack is blaming customers who post its advisories about the attack on social media, claiming this may lead to related attacks.
