RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Most young girls would look forward to birthday gifts, but not Ella Young. This 13-year-old has made it her mission to make and gift packages full of necessities to the homeless of Richmond.
“My parents asked me what I wanted for my birthday, and I just thought that there are people out there who need this a lot more than I do,” Young said. “It took off from there.” ....

Note: The video above aired before the city declared how it would handle the midnight Friday deadline.Winston-Salem officials announced enforcement will not be used to remove individuals at a homeless encampment after the shutdown deadline at midnight Friday.In a wooded area near the corner of Akron Drive and Patterson Avenue is a homeless encampment where about 10 to 20 people lived as of Thursday. As of Friday, there are about 10 people still there, according to the Winston-Salem City Council.Activists said they want to see the city do more to help out the people living there while the city said their goal is to provide them housing. The city said so far they’ve managed to help multiple people who were living there move to the Cities with Dwellings winter shelter. Activists said the city needs to offer more resources. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The temporary shelter that opened for people moved from a homeless camp along Union Street on Monday will be open for 27 more days.
The Temporary Bridge Shelter, being managed by Changing Homelessness and the City Rescue Mission, was donated by Jacksonville real estate company JWB. The company learned there was a need for space and wanted to help.
“I think the homelessness is a big issue here in Jacksonville and (we’re) just being able to be a small part of the solution,” JWB President Alexander Sifakis ....

Huntington Beach Police Remove Homeless Occupying Wetlands
Huntington Beachpolice say they cleared out homeless encampments in environmentally sensitive areas after finding the areas ridden with trash and drug paraphernalia.
There were “pollution, fires, litter, and drug use in that area, such as discarded needles, which had a significant environmental impact in an ecologically sensitive area,” Huntington Beach Lt. Brian Smith told The Epoch Times.
The group of homeless people, living at Harriet Wieder Park and Bolsa Chica Conservancy, were removed by the police’s homeless task force on March 10 during a clearing operation.
Homeless encampments in the wetland areas were polluting the land, burning unlawful fires, littering, and committing criminal activity such as drug use and possession of stolen property, according to a Facebook post made by the Huntington Beach Police Department ....
